ALTAR GUILD |
The members of the Altar Guild are the "behind the scene" workers at St. Michael's. Whenever we gather for worship the Sanctuary is always prepared and beautiful. This is the work of the Altar Guild. They change the hangings (the cover for the communion table and the pulpit and lecturn decorations) to the color of the season or the day. They bake the bread to be consecrated during Communion. They clean the Chalices and Paten (plate for the communion bread). The Altar Guild also fills all the candles, makes the flower arrangements, polishes all the brass, and sets everything in its place for worship. And all of this is done before every worship service! The work of the Altar Guild is something most worshippers never see. But that work is vital to how we worship at St. Michael's. Many members of the Altar Guild see their work as directly working for God. They are setting His table for His people. As they are cleaning, polishing, vacuuming, baking and pouring, many members pray about what they are doing and the objects they are handling. They ask God to bless their work so that others who gather to worship may experience God's presence in a new and deeper way. (Back to Ministries Page) |
