Acolytes assist the Priest and Deacon during the worship service.
They light the candles, carry the processional Cross and torches during the Processional, hold
the Gospel book, give the offering plates to the ushers as well as anything else they are asked to help with
during a worship service.
Acolytes also help the Priest and Deacon with Communion.
Acolytes can be male or female of any age. At St. Michael's we have many children, teen and adult acolytes.
On the Sundays they are scheduled to serve, the acolytes wear vestments (robes). The belt they
wear is called a cincture, and reflects the color of the liturgical season.
It is generally a twisted rope with knots on the ends and is secured around the waist.
Most acolytes also wear a cross with their vestments.
Acolytes perform a vital role in the worship at St. Michael's.
